This webpage was created by me, to instruct, inform, teach, tell, preach and advertise to you the amazing world of Irish Dance. Ok, so now that you know what this webpage is about what exactly is Irish Dance you say? Well, Irish Dance is many faceted. I've been dancing for four years and every week I learn something new. A beginner Irish Dancer begins their career mastering basic "JIG" and "REEL" soft shoe steps. They will later learn a "SLIP JIG" and later still when they move on to dancing in HARD SHOES the Treble Jig ( aka Hard or Heavy Jig) and the Hornpipe. Caeli dances are for groups of dancers to perform together. There is also a competition side of dancing. Feises are where Irish Dancers compete to win metals and later on trophies, to move up to higher levels of dancing and of course have tons of fun. The levels of competition are as follows : Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Novice, Prizewinner, Preliminary and Open Championships. Dancers perform and compete in costumes. School costumes are usually worn from Advanced Beginner to Prizewinner levels. Solo dresses are worn for competitions in more advance levels.

Hair Curling Instructions

Thanx to the Trinity School for the "Heads Up"

Armed with patience, determination and, if luck is going your way, a sleeping child, repeat over and over
"I can do this!"
Your first attempt at this should not be the night before the feis.
You'll need: *mousse (alcohol-based, dries faster)
or Dippity-Doo gel
*Pink spongy rollers
medium for short or very curly long hair
small for long hair or straight short hair
how many? 50, 60 even 100
Set hair clean and DRY If you roll the hair up wet, it will be wet when you take it down!!!!
The longer the time between setting the hair and the taking down the hair the better the chances are of
the curls lasting longer. (24hours, 48 hours)
Child should wear button front shirt so changing clothes doesn't undo all your hard work.
*small flat barrette
*poodle headband
*end papers
How to:
1. Part hair from back of ear over top of head to other ear, positioning small barrette in ponytail on top
of head so that it will be covered by headband when curlers are removed. (1a.)If dancer has bangs,
obviously they may not all reach into this "ponytail".
2. clip the "ponytail" out of the way & section off top flat part of head directly behind ponytail.
3. Put some mouse into a small dish.
4. Sections should be no longer than the length of your curler, widths definitely no wider, perferably
narrower, in order to have a dry, snug curl.
5. It is much easier to remove the rollers if you make sure the "latch is on the top of ther roller when
you roll it- hinge on bottom.
6. Dip your fingers in the mousse and put it down the whole length of the section of hair, making sure to
get some on the very end.
7. Starting at the very end of the hair, roll it all the way to the top of the head, placing the roller
vertically against the head.
8. Be sure to roll all the way from the end of the hair. Dont wrap the ends around the roller
9. It doesn't matter in which direction you roll the
hair.
10. Roll top section of hair with "latch" against part, or "ponytail" and hinge towards back of head.
11. Ponytail may be set after this section, or when entire head is done. Many rollers must be used in
ponytail: when curlers in ponytail are pulled, they should be the same tightness as rest of hair, so be
sure not to put too much hair on these rollers.
12. Use the same technique as the top to set next section of fair, directly below top section. Circling
sides and back of head.
13. Again, take very thin sections of hair just the length of the roller all the way around head.
14. You should now have a row of rollers, laying up and down, circling the top section.
15. Start the next row directly under first row
16.This row whould end up touching the bottom of the first row.
17. Keep this up until the whole head is rolled. There should be no gaps in the rollers. In other words,
you will see no blank spaces where there is no roller.
18. Wrap the shole head in a net or scarf to keep the rollers in while sleeping.
Taking it dow
1. Make sure dancer is earing something that she doesnt have to take off over her head
2. Put the headband down around ther neck.
3. Do not unroll the curl, just pull the roller out.
4. When you finish the bottom row, don't go to the row above it.
5. Take each curl that is out of the roller, one at a time & split each curl into three or more sections &
roll each section around your finger as you separate it. This will give you many very thin curls for
every roller you put in.
6. Spray each row row as you finish it. 7. Pull headband up & pin it with at least six bobby pins.
8. Sit down, relax and thank Hearven for little girls!!!!
